Jabar Jones was a former gang member who had been ennobled as a baron by Norman Arminger, the Lord Protector of the Portland Protective Association.

Clan Mackenzie conducts a raid in Molalla's barony that results in Mathilda Arminger being captured by the Mackenzies.
A Meeting at Corvallis[]
Jones was called before Norman Arminger with his wife and child and without weapons after Arminger's young daughter, the Princess Mathilda was captured by Clan Mackenzie while in Jones's care. Both Arminger and his wife the Lady Sandra Arminger, berated Jones for his error in judgment in exposing Mathilda on a train. Arminger then called for Jones's weapons to be returned to him and and dismissed him.
